Curiosity Boxes: Assemblage art
This upcycling exercise is inspired by SECCA’s current exhibiting artists, particularly Karla Dickens’ use of found materials, assemblage and activism, and Helen Britton’s exploration of memory, personal histories and collected objects. Participants will create a three-dimensional curiosity box that tells a story about who they are, where they belong and what matters to them.
Using found objects and materials such as buttons, cardboard, fabric scraps, natural treasures and recycled materials, young artists will combine different elements to build an artwork reflecting identity, community, environment and the impact we each have on the world around us.
Participants are encouraged to bring a few small items from home to include in their artwork, such as broken jewellery, old toys, photographs, keepsakes or other objects with personal meaning.
