Please join us for this rare workshop opportunity with celebrated performance poet, Gabrielle Journey Jones.

In association with the TIDELAND: Art + Word project, this workshop will focus on annunciation, pace, mic use and mic techniques with spoken word presentation.

Gabrielle Journey Jones is a poet, percussionist and event producer born on sovereign Gadigal Land, Sydney, Australia. She is from Maori and African American bloodlines and has lived on the Far South Coast NSW, Yuin Country since 2018 with her family. Gabrielle has shared her poetry at local, national and international events for 30 years. She has three collections of poetry published by Ginninderra Press (2017 – 2023), with a fourth collection and spoken word audiobook in production.

Gabrielle has recently facilitated and co-edited Material & Ephemeral a Writing About Art Group Anthology by 10 local poets reflecting on each art exhibition at SECCA in 2024.

Gabrielle is inspired by creative communities which celebrate diversity, activism and inclusion. She has worked collaboratively with over 80 organisations in the past decade delivering poetry and drumming workshops and performances in schools and the community. Gabrielle is also a Senior Social Worker in NSW Health with Integrated Violence, Abuse and Neglect Services (IVANS).

The TIDELAND: Art + Word project is a new collaboration between the South East Centre for Contemporary Art (SECCA), the Bega Valley Shire Library, and the South Coast Writers Centre, that aims to explore a multidisciplinary interpretation of works from the SECCA public art collection.
