Bithry. Time.
Bithry. Time. is an exhibition of time-based work by Bonita Ely, a leading Australian artist, responding to Bithry Inlet, its estuary, and the heritage-listed architecture on the headland of Bega Valley Shire’s Mimosa Rocks National Park.
From the headland overlooking the inlet, Bonita’s time-based videos have captured the changing light, tides, weather and human activities from before dawn until after sunset. A multitude of brush and ink works on paper have documented the interconnectedness, infinite beauty and environmental changes of Bithry Inlet.
Created in collaboration with Marina Ely, a floor-based work commemorates their former home – the Barn – a nonagon shaped structure experimentally designed by Marina’s grandfather, Sir Roy Grounds, one of Australia’s leading modernist architects.
About the artist: Bonita Ely is a leading Australian artist known for her conceptual, environmental and socio-political art. Since the 1970s, she has been fascinated by science, communication, human impacts and the natural world. Her work is included in national and international collections such as the Museum of Modern Art New York, National Gallery of Australia, and Museum of Contemporary Art. Bonita Ely is represented by Milani Gallery.

Artist Talk & Site Visit
Saturday 16 August, 2pm-4pm, Myer House, Mimosa Rocks National Park
Join Bonita Ely for an Artist Talk with Marina Ely at Myer House, followed by a short walk to the Barn. This special event will include an overview of Bonita’s practice, along with insights into the collaborative work with her daughter Marina – a large-scale rubbing from the wooden block floor of the Barn, where they spent many summers. The Barn is an experimental structure built in 1965 by Marina’s grandfather, renowned architect Roy Grounds. Located at Bithry Inlet on the Far South Coast of NSW, it was Grounds’ creative retreat while designing the National Gallery of Victoria and the Victorian Arts Centre.
