One of Australia’s most loved and richest awards for realistic portraiture, the biennial Shirley Hannan National Portrait Award returns to the Bega Valley for the first time at the newly opened South East Centre for Contemporary Art.
Celebrating portraiture in memory of the dedicated arts patron and supporter, Shirley Hannan, the $50,000 biennial award is non-acquisitive and attracts hundreds of entries from many of Australia’s most respected artists.
A prerequisite for the award was made that those works selected to hang depict their subjects accurately without abstraction and demonstrate a sound skill and knowledge of drawing and painting technique.
Our 2024 Judges are acclaimed artist Jude Rae, and independent curator, Dr Sarah Engledow.
We thank the generosity of our Award patrons Peter Hannan, David Hannan, and Lisa Herbert.
Exhibition opening event and Winner announcement was held Fri 29 Nov, 6-8pm.
The Winner of the 2024 non-acquisitive $50,000 Award is Lucy Culliton with her portrait ‘Support Crew’.
