Skywhales Online Workshop Opportunity for Schools
The Skywhales Every Heart Sings digital excursion is an interactive webinar-style digital experience facilitated by National Gallery artist educators. A series of live digital excursions for Years 3-6 are being offered in conjunction with the tour of Skywhales Across Australia. Students will be introduced to the work of artist Patricia Piccinini and to key concepts that underpin her work including care, community, sustainability and our responsibility to nature. Schools of the Bega Valley are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and book a digital excursion with the National Gallery Education team.
This is a free opportunity, and bookings can be made through the NGA website before Friday 18 September 2026 (4 weeks prior to the tour of Skywhales Across Australia to Bega).

Skywhales Learning Resource
Skywhales Every Heart Sings primary learning resource is designed to encourage school students to explore concepts of love, care and responsibility in relation to ourselves, families, the wider world and other living beings. It is designed with relevance to the Sustainability cross-curriculum priority.
The six key themes are Sustainability, Diversity, Nurture, Evolution, Community and Imagination. In line with the visual arts curriculum strands, student engagement with each theme, promotes critical and creative thinking and inspires active learning through making, writing, discussing and reflecting.

Skywhales Knitting Pattern
Designed in collaboration between Canberra based knitter Katy Griffis and Patricia Piccinini, the Skywhales knitting pattern shows advanced knitters how to make a 35cm Skywhale soft toy.
