KINDLING: Kil.n.it Experimental Ceramics Studio and Far South Coast artists’ exchange
14 Feb – 12 Apr 2025
Kindling features the works of Kil.n.it studio artists, Bandicoot Pottery, and selected residency artists of an urban and regional exchange held in 2024. The exhibition celebrates new connections made, explores the experimental potential between divergent practices in contemporary ceramics, and features the culmination of the year-long partnership project.
In July 2024, three selected Kil.n.it artists from the Glebe-based ceramic studios, Jayanto Tan, Ellen Bagge and Sybilla Robertson, undertook a residency at long running Bandicoot Pottery in Cobargo. The focus of the residency was to explore ceramic wood-firing, overseen by the experience of decades long wood-firing ceramicists Daniel Lafferty and Gabrielle Powell.
As counterpart, the project also selected three regionally based artists from the Far South Coast to be hosted as residents at Sydney’s kil.n.it studios. Sarah Murray, Tara Penales and Phoebe Turner each spent two weeks at the metro-based studios, creating connections with the Kil.n.it resident artists, and exploring the many benefits of centralised collective studios with proximity to epicentre institutions and a density of networks.
The concept of gift exchange is foundational to this exhibition and the broader artist exchange project.
SECCA is delighted to present Kindling alongside Kil.n.it Experimental Ceramic Studios, Bandicoot Pottery, and South East Arts.
